What is Aquastilla Duo?

The Aquastilla Duo water treatment plant is a modern device designed to soften and treat water in single-family homes or apartments. It effectively protects installations, fixtures, and household appliances from limescale buildup.

Aquastilla DUO  also contains two additional media –  activated carbon and KDF55® – which reduce harmful chlorine, hydrogen sulfide, lead, mercury, magnesium, chromium, bacteria, viruses, algae, and fungi. The filters remove unpleasant odors from water, allowing you to enjoy clean, tasty water. It is recommended that softened water hardness be between 3 and 6 degrees German hardness, or 4 to 8 degrees German hardness for copper systems.

How does Aquastilla DUO work?

The device is installed at the cold water inlet to the building. Hard water enters the house through the main supply pipe. It flows into the softener and passes through an ion exchange resin (Purolite C100E), which softens the water. During this process, an ion exchange process occurs, in which the ions responsible for water hardness are captured by the resin and exchanged for sodium ions. The softened water is then fed into the house’s water system. 

The Aquastilla DUO water softener also contains two additional media – activated carbon and KDF55® – that reduce harmful chlorine, hydrogen sulfide, lead, mercury, magnesium, chromium, bacteria, viruses, algae, and fungi. The filters remove unpleasant odors from water, allowing you to enjoy clean, tasty water. 

Once the ion exchange capacity of the resin has been exhausted, the device will automatically regenerate it using previously prepared brine. During the regeneration process, the device regains its ion exchange capacity, allowing it to effectively soften water again

How does regeneration work and how much salt and water does it use?

Regeneration starts automatically every 14 days or after approximately 5 m³ of water has been used. During a single regeneration, the station uses 2.4 kg of salt and up to 170 l of water. A single batch requires 50 kg of tableted salt. Regeneration does not restrict access to water. 

The ion exchange resin should be replaced after at least 10 years of operation of the station (this period may be longer – it all depends on the operating conditions of the device).

What is a KDF® filter?

KDF® is based on an alloy of copper and zinc. It reduces contaminants in water using oxidation/reduction (redox) reactions. In other words, KDF® exchanges electrons with compounds present in the water. This process of donating and accepting electrons between contaminants deactivates them, transforming them into compounds with completely different properties (e.g., chlorine into chloride). Other compounds, such as lead and many heavy metals, bind to KDF®. This results in the complete elimination or significant reduction of many contaminants.

Additionally, KDF® affects microorganisms by creating hydroxyl radicals and peroxides from various compounds found in water. These radicals have a destructive effect on the vital functions of microorganisms.

According to the technical documentation, the use of KDF® before granulated activated carbon extends the life of the carbon and protects it against bacterial growth.
